The construction of Stage 1 of Sovereign Hills’ $100 million town centre development ‘Sovereign Place’ is officially underway.
Developer Lewis Land Group (LLG) was joined by Port Macquarie-Hastings Mayor Peta Pinson and our town centre retailers as the first sod was turned on this significant piece of infrastructure.
LLG chief executive officer Chris Calvert told onlookers the town centre is one of the biggest under construction in regional NSW.
“The town centre will grow in stages to more than 25,000sq.m,” shared Mr Calvert. “Stage 1 comprises 5,600sq.m of retail space including a supermarket, chemist, medical, convenience and restaurant offerings, surrounded by landscaped areas for visitors to enjoy the outdoors.
“We’re really focused on supporting local businesses first to provide a boost to local families and the Hastings’ economy.”
The successful building tender will be announced within the coming weeks. The project will generate between 300-400 construction jobs, and a further 200 permanent and casual positions throughout the IGA supermarket and surrounding businesses.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Mayor Peta Pinson enthusiastically welcomed the start of construction.
“We are experiencing rapid growth right across our region, and the Sovereign Hills development is yet another wonderful community choice for those lucky enough to live the wonderful Port Macquarie-Hastings lifestyle,” Mayor Pinson said.
Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams described the town centre as an exciting new development for Port Macquarie and the growing local community of Sovereign Hills.
“Having a brand new shopping centre to accommodate the needs of the thousands of new residents is fantastic,” Mrs Williams said. “This area has grown significantly over the past few years and is testament to the confidence of the Lewis Land Group and the local economy.
“I am pleased the State Government was able to financially assist the Sovereign Hills development to proceed by providing Port Macquarie-Hastings Council $3 million in 2012 for the construction of a water reservoir at Thrumster. The funding helped to boost local housing construction,” Mrs Williams added.
Mr Calvert anticipates Stage 1 will open for business in late 2019, saying it delivers on a promise to the Sovereign Hills master planned community and Hastings.
“This is a significant investment in a region with immense growth opportunities. We are developing a community with room for up to 8,400 people and our vision has always been to create an environment where these families can live, work and play.”
Stage 1 of the town centre will feature a modern open-air design while recycled and natural materials will form key architectural features of the building.
Port Macquarie’s fastest growing community remains a popular choice for both local and interstate buyers, seeking an affordable new home in a modern estate, just 10 minutes from the CBD and coastline.
LLG has released close to 200 new residential lots over the past 12 months to keep up with demand.
The Sovereign Hills master planned community is also home to onsite schooling, childcare and recreational facilities.
