A young Port Macquarie couple has made history, taking out the Sovereign Hills Display Village’s biggest prize yet.

Saige and Cian McMahon joined 31 hopeful entrants on Saturday 15 June on York Street, Port Macquarie, for the $30,000 Home Deposit boost prize draw and were ecstatic to hear their names called.‍

“I didn’t believe it was our names at first,” exclaimed Saige. “It took a second to register it was us… We’ve never won anything before.”

The Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams was on hand to do the honours, congratulating the pair who recently welcomed their first child, seven-week-old Hazel.

The couple learned about the $30,000 prize while visiting the display village builders in search of the perfect new home plan. They settled on a design with Rob Tate Family Homes, during the entry period, which they'll build on a block of land in Sovereign Hills’ Stirling Green precinct.

“We’ve been looking at building for a couple of years and had been through the display village before, but hadn’t been able to find the right block… The right block came up and Rob Tate came up with a plan for what we wanted to do, and it all just fell into place.”

The couple plan to build a three-bedroom home with extra living space, reserving room for a large backyard for their growing girl and family pets.

Saige and Cian are now tossing up whether to spend the $30,000 prize on a skylight or on kitchen and bathroom upgrades, and are extremely grateful they can now achieve extras which weren’t in their original budget.

“Just thank you to the display village! What an amazing initiative to put on... It really does make a huge difference to people’s lives.”

Shane Clunes from Rob Tate Family Homes congratulated the couple on behalf of the 14 Sovereign Hills Display Village builders.

“It’s just fantastic to see a young family win the prize and we look forward to helping them build and now make their new home even more special," he stated.
