Mobile library van rolls into Sovereign Hills every fortnight

Do you love a good read? It has never been easier to borrow a good paperback, audio or children’s book thanks to Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s new mobile library.

Every second Wednesday this fantastic new community facility will roll into the Sovereign Hills community and open its doors – opposite the Sovereign Place Town Centre –  between 10am and 12pm, and it’s all for you.

Inside are more than 1,000 adults and children’s book titles to choose from and the best part is you can borrow them for free!

Simply sign up as a member of the Mid North Coast library community on the spot and you’re away.

Library manager Jim McGuire said it’s all part of an interim service until a permanent library is created at Sovereign Hills.

About 700,000 books and library resources are borrowed across the Hastings every year, with e-books accounting for 10 per cent of this figure.

“We offer classics, best sellers, talking books, DVDs and magazines, even a parenting section.”

In this digital age, where devices can often take precedence over a paperback, reading a good story book has never been more important for children’s literacy skills.

“It’s very important for kids to read books. The earlier you start your children reading the better.”

Thanks to a new era of brilliant children’s authors including Anh Do, David Walliams, Aaron Blabey, and Andy Griffiths, a new generation of readers has a multitude of funny and engaging books to choose from, and the mobile library is full of them.

You can even download the Mid North Coast Library App, which allows you to manage your account, renew or reserve books and access the e-library.

What if the book you’re after isn’t available? No worries! You can place your order online and the mobile library will ensure it’s on board for their next visit to our community. How good is that!

The mobile library van’s next visit to Sovereign Hills will be Wednesday the 25th of November (between 10am and 12pm).

Happy reading!
