We’re being encouraged to make Mother’s Day mean more this year with registrations now open for the 2019 Mother’s Day Classic.
Now in its fifth year in Port Macquarie, the 5km fun run and walk empowers locals of all ages to come together as a community to raise awareness of breast cancer and funding for research.
The annual event is held around Australia and involves more than 100,000 participants nationally.
The Port Macquarie event will be held on Sunday 12 May at Westport Park from 7:15am and will feature refreshments, breakfast food stalls, entertainment, jumping castle for kids, and more.
Port Macquarie event organiser Kylie Bulmer is a passionate supporter of the cause.
“Hosting the Mother’s Day Classic in Port Macquarie is a great way to bring our community together, to have a bit of fun and paint the town pink, but also boost awareness of and raise funds to support breast cancer research,” Kylie explained.
Sovereign Hills is proud to support the 2019 event, which is 100% funded by local sponsorships, and is pleased to announce you can join us on the day.
All you need to do is register here and enter ‘Sovvy Hills’ as your team.
“We’re excited to have Sovereign Hills on board this year which is a great contribution to our local area,” said Kylie. “We’re grateful to many local businesses who are donating goods or services to assist our fundraising efforts.”
The fun run and walk will depart from Westport Park, along the foreshore to Town Beach and return.
“It provides an outlet for those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer locally, to share their journey and benefit from the support of others in the community including walking or running with their family members and friends.
“Now 1 in 7 Australian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. But it’s not just a woman’s issue. One in 675 men in Australia will also be diagnosed with breast cancer before they’re 85 years old. With 53 women being diagnosed every day in Australia, we want to help to make a difference by funding research into improving outcomes.”
