“My dream for Salty Hair was to create a salon that stands out visually and leaves you with an ‘experience’,” explained Maddi Hirtes from her beautiful new boutique in the Sovereign Place Town Centre.
All dusty pinks, white and gold, Salty Hair is a serene space which encourages clients to relax as soon as they step foot on the polished concrete floors.
“I wanted a salon that was completely different to every other salon in Port,” shared the go-getter and young mum who started Salty Hair at home while on maternity leave this year.
The demand for her signature style of blonde, balayage and beachy waves increased so quickly she and husband Brendon (a Port Macquarie local) decided to take the plunge and open a salon to accommodate her growing client base, choosing Sovereign Place on a whim.
“Everything fell into place,” said Maddi. “It’s just such a beautiful spot and we could see the potential in a growing community. We didn’t want to start another salon in the CBD.”
After a decade of hairdressing, Maddi, who grew up in Collaroy on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, reflected on what inspired her to take up the craft.
“I really wasn’t doing too well in school (lack of interest), and this encouraged me to walk up the road to my local hairdresser and ask for an apprenticeship. I had my trial on the Saturday, was employed Saturday afternoon, left school Monday, started my apprenticeship on the Tuesday! I never looked back.”
Maddi is injecting the same can-do attitude into Salty Hair and is looking forward to building the business at Sovereign Place over time.
“My dream was to be different and really stand out.”
