Port Macquarie pilot and aerial photographer Tim Hitchins spends his days filming some of the region’s best properties and scenery, but when his feet are on the ground his favourite place is at home at Sovereign Hills.
Having recently built his first home in The Heritage precinct, the talented local and flight instructor, whose wings have been clipped due to the ongoing pandemic, has been spending his downtime settling into his new surrounds with his partner Makenzie Mullan.
“It feel amazing to have our own space and somewhere to be proud of,” shared Tim, who was inspired into action by friends who had already built in the community.
“There was a big social element that I considered. The connectivity of this community was really attractive in terms of having easy access to parks, shopping and restaurants, and knowing there are plans for further development of the town centre, with good roads and paths everywhere.”
Sovereign Hills’ parks and walkways are also perfect for Tim and Makenzie’s newest housemate Macy the groodle.
“She’s fun and affectionate, and loving having a big backyard to explore.
“We’re settling into Sovereign Hills really well. Every day we get dozens of people walking past, walking dogs, kids riding bikes, and everyone has been so friendly and always up for a chat,” added Tim, who is also a volunteer rural fire fighter with the Lake Innes Brigade.
Despite the pandemic-induced rising property prices, Sovereign Hills continues to attract first home buyers keen to build rather than buy an existing abode.
“Sovereign Hills offered an affordable land price along with a great range of builders in the display village who know the area and are familiar with the land releases and how the process here works,” Tim explained.
“The location of Sovereign Hills really suits us as Makenzie is a registered nurse working at the hospital meaning a five minute drive to work, and my business takes me up and down the highway a lot, allowing a quick trip home compared to living further into town.”
The most recent land releases in The Heritage have sold out within hours and Sovereign Hills Land Sales Manager Luke Moreta said the community remains popular with people at all stages of life.
“We are proud to say more than 90% of our latest land release was sold to ‘live in home owners’ from our local and surrounding areas,” Mr Moreta explained.
“We’re immensely proud of helping 287 purchasers secure a block of land in The Heritage precinct over the past 20 months. While it has become more difficult to secure land due to the overwhelming demand for new home sites on the New South Wales mid north coast, we are creating an ongoing supply and we encourage buyers to stay in touch with us to ensure they’re in the best position for future land releases.”
Tim entrusted Sovereign Hills Display Village builder Better Homes and Developments with his first home build and would happily do it all again.
“It was an amazing experience. I was initially quite nervous about building but the Better Homes team was brilliant to work with from start to finish. Nothing was too difficult and they explained all the steps clearly, and were extremely quick to respond to any queries I had. They guided me through every step of the way which I’m really grateful for.”
