t’s the most wonderful time of the year, but it can also be the toughest according to three Port Macquarie not-for-profit groups which work tirelessly during the festive season to help others.
In recognition of the hardship sectors of our local community are experiencing, Sovereign Hills is dedicated to giving back this Christmas.
It’s hoped the donation of toys, gift vouchers and essential items will help The Salvation Army Port Macquarie, Liberty Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Services and YP Space bring some joy to locals of all ages, as the cost of groceries, utilities and gifts soar.
“A wide range of age groups including parents and even grandparents are doing it tough this year as living costs continue to rise,” explained Salvation Army Youth and Children Officer Peter Gott.
Sovereign Hills has donated gift vouchers, Sovereign Place Your Discount Chemist gift packs and toiletries, and children’s toys and sports balls to the Salvos which have assisted more than 400 families and singles during another challenging year.
“Thank you to Sovereign Hills for your support and donations, it’s certainly going to help us create some joy, fun and bring some hope at Christmas time.”
Liberty Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Services supported 1,200 local women and children during the past financial year.
CEO Kelly Lamb said community donations, such as the gifts received from the Lewis Land Group and Sovereign Hills, make a big difference in the lives of local families.
“This generous donation of more than 100 quality gifts for mums and kids of all ages will bring smiles to so many on Christmas morning. Our team of domestic violence specialists will deliver the gifts to families we work with as they start their new lives free from violence,” Mrs Lamb said.
“Liberty greatly appreciates the ongoing support we receive from the Lewis Land Group as we work together towards a safer community.”
The donation of gift vouchers to YP Space Mid North Coast, supporting young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, will allow children aged 12 to 25 years to personally select something they need the most this Christmas.
“This is going to help the homeless young people on our case load,” explained Deb Tougher, Outreach manager at YP Space.
“These gift cards will go towards 40 young people who are experiencing homelessness and may not be receiving Christmas presents elsewhere, so they are going to be very grateful and they can spend it on whatever they need.”
Sovereign Hills would like to wish everyone a merry Christmas and a safe holiday season. Thank you for being a part of, visiting or supporting our community during 2022.
