Port Macquarie Surf Life Saving Club will be well represented at one of the biggest events on the surf sport calendar this weekend when they take to the golden sands of Kingscliff.
Almost 100 members from the under 8s through to masters will compete in a range of events at the NSW Country Championships.
Sovereign Hills is a proud sponsor of the club which is dedicated to teaching fresh waves of nippers how to respect and stay safe around the ocean every Sunday morning at Flynns Beach.
We wish all 92 competitors the best of luck as they prepare to take on their peers from NSW clubs outside the Newcastle-to-Illawarra corridor.
“If you place at country, you’re very close to being among the state’s top 10,” explained club president Danny Suitor.
“Events include surfing, boat rowing, skis, the ironman and the sand events; flags and sprints.”
The Port Macquarie club will send the third largest contingent of competitors.
“Our members are increasing each year,” added Danny. “Surf Life Saving is very focused on bolstering the number of nippers coming through the club ranks.
“Whether they are there for a short time or progress into senior ranks, the experience they gain not only helps themselves, but also gives them the ability to help others and become involved in a community organisation.”
Decked out in their new hooded towels, purchased in part with their sponsorship funds, crew members are looking forward to the experience.
Successful Country competitors will progress to the NSW Championships and then onto the Australian Championships before the Surf Life Saving season wraps up in March.
