Curve appeal… Building an outside the square home

From the curved shower wall in the ensuite to the raked ceiling and Velux skylights in the living room, this stunning Mediterranean design from Hotondo Homes Mid North Coast represents modern luxury and innovative design.

Showcasing an outside the square design from the local team, the home which is located in the Sovereign Hills master planned community, recently sold, but not before the interior designer behind the project and owner of Coastal Interior Group Leanne Webber shared her insights and tricks of the trade.

“My role was to design a home that everyone would want… Creating something different from what we have been used to seeing, whilst incorporating a mixture of current and upcoming design trends. I worked with the owners and draftsman from concept to completion and had full rein to select all fixtures, finishes, colours and design features throughout,” Leanne explained.

A former Sovereign Hills local, Leanne infused the home with unique and classic touches, transforming it into a space which exudes warmth, functionality and aesthetic appeal.

One of the standout elements of the design is the consistent use of curves throughout, from the façade’s feature arches to the rounded ensuite shower wall and cabinetry handles. This cohesive design approach creates a seamless flow throughout the property, making it both visually appealing and harmonious.

“Curves are back and they are here to stay for a while,” Leanne highlighted.

The living room is particularly remarkable, featuring high raked ceilings, Velux skylights and a tiled fireplace which together enhance the sense of space throughout, while filling the room with natural light.

“The idea was to give this area a feeling of space, given the floor plan isn’t huge.”

To further accentuate the space, the tiled fireplace extends to the ceiling, drawing the eye upward and connecting with exposed beams. This design choice by Hotondo Homes not only adds to the room’s visual appeal but also contributes to the overall balance and harmony of the space.

The exterior is equally impressive, with a Compass pool that integrates seamlessly with the alfresco area utilising beautiful travertine French tiles. The alfresco and pool areas are tied together by a breeze block feature wall, evoking a Palm Springs-inspired design which instantly transports you to a holiday state of mind.

The landscaping, executed by Mid Coast Gardens, plays a crucial role in completing the serene outdoor space. Mature palms, olive trees, shrubs and cactus plants, combined with rounded garden edging, a curved feature stone wall and rounded sandstone stepping pavers, create a lush and inviting environment.

“Did you notice we have a trailing garden above the garage door? In a few months this will be fully established and will be a stunning feature!” Leanne added.

Leanne also shared her top tips for styling the home, focusing on creating an earthy, textured ambience which complements the curved architectural elements.

Her recommendations include:

Earthy tones: Opt for items in earthy tones with soft lines and curves to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Add texture: Incorporate pillar-style furniture with ribbed features to add texture and interest.

Keep it curved: Choose round or oval tables to complement the curved design elements.

A natural touch: Use rustic stone or travertine pieces to add a natural touch to the décor.

Keep it playful: Consider bubble furniture such as lounges or feature chairs for a playful yet stylish look.

Break it up: Large textured rugs under multiple furniture items and richer timbers help break up a monochromatic palette and add depth to the space.

“I really love to help people. Building a new home is very daunting to a lot of people, so seeing them enjoy the process and ease their minds makes me so happy. I love when the project comes to life and it’s even more spectacular than I imagine! This still to this day blows me away on every project I have worked on,” she added.
