Construction activity reaches new heights at Sovereign Hills

Construction activity has reached a record high in Sovereign Hills as the community’s town centre takes shape and more families seek out a new home within striking distance of Port Macquarie’s facilities.

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council has never been busier with an average of 106 development applications (DAs) received each month during the current financial year to date.

That’s an increase of 17 DAs every month when compared with the previous two financial years.

Lewis Land Group Head of Development Michael Long said the results mirrored the construction activity at Sovereign Hills which is welcoming new families every week.

“Our community is growing at a rapid rate, with more than 400 families now calling Sovereign Hills home, 70 homes under construction, and the first stage of our $100 million town centre, featuring a supermarket, restaurants and specialty stores, due to open before Christmas,” Mr Long said.

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council Group Manager Development Assessment Dan Croft said the region continued to lead the mid north coast construction charge.

“It’s pleasing to see and a sign that Port Macquarie is a prosperous place for people to live, work and invest,” Mr Croft shared.

“Council is strategically planning for the future. There’s a large amount of employment lands being provided for commercial and industrial development, and we also have a very strong health and education sector that drives the economy, and the construction industry plays a key role.

“Families moving to the area are finding developments like Sovereign Hills are meeting their needs.”

Between July and December 2018, more than $114 million in residential and $13.1 million in commercial DAs flooded into council.

Dean Thompson from Hotondo Homes in the Sovereign Hills Display Village said the flow-on effect of new home construction extends well beyond the builders.

“From the local trades and material suppliers, right through to the retailers; furniture, appliances, landscaping – the domino effect of building a new home benefits so many small businesses and families in our community,” Mr Thompson said.

This Saturday, 23 February, the Sovereign Hills Display Village will celebrate its award-winning builders and stunning display homes when Sovereign Hills presents our Best of Summer open day.

The community is invited to enjoy free family-friendly activities, including wood fired barbecue demonstrations, water activities and giveaways, and to discover 12 special house and land packages. Each features a bonus $5,000 summer upgrade designed to make the home more comfortable and efficient during the warmer months.

You can find your new home site at Sovereign Hills and catch all the action between 10am and 2pm on Sovereign Drive, Port Macquarie.
