A new $550,000 community space is coming soon to Sovereign Hills.
Work has started on a library kiosk and medium-sized asphalt basketball court with lighting in the town centre precinct opposite Sovereign Place - Stage One.
The works mark a new chapter for the greenspace which has previously hosted a pop-up café and mobile library van.
“Sovereign Hills is a family-friendly community with a desire for more activation spaces and facilities, and we’re pleased to be delivering this new amenity for locals to connect and get active,” shared Sovereign Hills’ Construction Manager Paul Zvirzdinas.
It’s hoped this new activation space will provide a range of physical and mental health benefits to the community, by encouraging more outdoor activity and socialising opportunities, and an alternative to ‘tech time’.
A library card is all locals will need to borrow books from the self-serve library kiosk - an initiative of Port Macquarie-Hastings Council which secured a NSW Government Public Library Infrastructure Grant for the project.
Council has been providing a mobile library service to the same location for the past two years.
Developer Lewis Land Group will provide the surrounding kiosk structure, inspired by the chapters of a book, to provide shelter and seating.
The area will also include a covered picnic table and bubbler, and will remain a dog-friendly zone.
“We’ll be working hard to complete this new facility for locals and visitors this summer,” added Mr Zvirzdinas. “It’s all part of Lewis Land Group’s commitment to providing more infrastructure and spaces for people to live, work and play closer to home.”
