Sovereign Hills’ boutique childcare centre opens
It’s 3pm in the rainbow room and colourful plates of chopped fruit are being devoured as the last sleeping toddler stirs from their afternoon nap in the nursery.
With contented tummies and hats on, a chirpy little group of children scamper off outside, following their educator like ducklings, to the waiting tricycles – ready for their next adventure through the freshly landscaped native gardens and pathways.
This afternoon routine is now a regular occurrence at 59 Sovereign Drive in the Sovereign Hills community’s second childcare centre – Smartland Boutique Early Learning Port Macquarie.
The state-of-the-art Hampton’s-inspired centre opened its doors this month amid strong interest from local families.
Centre operator and former Hastings local Jay Luckie is passionate about an industry he describes as ever-evolving and one which attracts the highest expectations from parents and carers. His fourth childcare centre doesn’t disappoint.
“It’s a work of art and it’s for parents as much as it is for children. When you walk in, the idea is you don’t have the anxiety and the mum guilts; you smell the lavender infuser and hear the Bob Marley music, your shoulders drop and you feel at peace.”
From the stylish reception with polished concrete entry and luscious green wall disks to the natural colour palette and light-filled interior, the centre has been designed to calm and nurture.
The 104-place centre caters for babies aged from six weeks to school aged children.
Each room is filled with an abundance of age-appropriate learning tools crafted from natural materials; everything is tactile.
“We want the learning environment to be the stimulation,” added Mr Luckie who described the centre’s core educators as “career educators” with 20 years’ experience.
The centre’s commercial-grade kitchen utilises local produce to create wholesome snacks and lunches such as lentil and red bean bolognaise, veggie sticks with hommus and homemade coconut muesli bar slice.
There’s also a courtesy bus service with pick up/drop off to home, school or work; before and after school care facilities separate to the child care and vacation care for children aged 6-12 years.
It’s early days and the centre is proving popular with local families, as well as those in the surrounding areas of Wauchope, Kempsey and Taree.
“The enquiry has been well above what I imagined… We’re getting so much interest from these areas because we’re only two minutes off the main access road into town. Once families from these satellite towns visit, they tell their friends and word spreads from there.
“We’ve gone above the standard, if you want to be the best you don’t just do the basics.”
Stay tuned for all the details about the centre’s family fun and open day coming soon.
